OVERSEAS STUDENTS

Foreign Students at ITS

The Institute of Tourism Studies strongly believes in the importance of a multicultural educational setting. It gladly welcomes students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds to follow vocational courses in the Hospitality and Catering sector at diverse levels, same as the ones offered to Maltese students.

Method of Application

1.  The initial step that interested foreign applicants need to take is to check whether they have the necessary entry requirements for the course they would like to follow. They are therefore requested to forward an application for the assessment of overseas qualifications to the address shown hereunder:

The document obtained should be attached to the ITS application form.

In the case of West African students, qualifications must also be validated by the International Verification Agency IVA-WAEC-UK. Applicants are to send the document to the following fax number: 44 (0) 207 233 8486. The result verification fee costs 20 / 30.

2.  Having received the assessment of overseas qualifications document/s indicating that the applicant has the necessary entry requirements for the course, the applicant can acquire an ITS Application Form.

3.  The Application Form should be duly completed and submitted. It should be accompanied by:

a)  Photocopies of all the Certificates required (or a photocopy of the result slip) including references. Original certificates and other documents are to be presented during the interview.
b)  Photocopy of the Identity Card.
c)  The assessment of overseas qualifications obtained from Malta Qualification Recognition Information Centre (Malta QRIC).
d)  A verification document from the International Verification Agency IVA-WAEC-UK.

4.  All applications should be submitted prior to the deadline. The Registrar of the Institute of Tourism Studies will receive/ accept applications, accompanied by the relevant documentation, by not later than noon of Friday 19th August, 2006.

The Institute will document/record applications delivered by hand and a receipt will be issued at the time of delivery.

Applications by post should be sent by registered mail and in sufficient time to ensure delivery by the above deadline. The Registrar will acknowledge such applications in writing within three seven days of receipt.

Applications sent electronically should have attached scanned copies of all the relevant certificates in format and a scanned photocopy of the Identity card in format.

Foreign students profiling and selection process

Applicants whose Application Forms are accepted will be assessed on their own individual skills and aptitude to follow a programme of studies at the Institute of Tourism Studies. They will receive an invitation for a Personal Interview and will sit for a Language and a Numeracy Skills Test.

Applicants who obtain a pass in the Interview and Test will then receive a letter from the ITS stating that they have been accepted.

Students will then notify the Immigration Office in order to apply for their VISA.

Tuition Fees

In the case of EU citizens tuition is offered free of charge. Non-EU citizens have to pay an annual fee of Lm1000 payable at the start of the semester i.e. in October. Students are also requested to pay a Lm50 administration fee. This fee is non-refundable should the student decide not to pursue the course applied for.

Additional Information

Foreign students are expected to make their own Accommodation arrangements.

Certificates issued in any language other than Maltese or English must be translated into Maltese or English by a recognized authority prior to being submitted with the Application Form.

The Language of tuition at the Institute of Tourism Studies is English. Applicants should have a fair competence in English to ensure comprehension during lectures.

To make the transition easier, the ITS will gladly assist international students in any procedural matters.

Requests by Foreign students may be considered on their own merits and depending on availability of places.
