A: Dress Code
Males Uniform: As stipulated by the ITS

APPENDIX II
ITS Examinations & Assessment Regulations
1. Attendance requirement
1.1: Students who do not achieve 80% attendance in any module, saving valid reasons as stipulated in Section 5 (Attendance & Absence reporting) will be precluded from sitting the examination.
1.2: Students who fail in more than two modules will not be allowed to progress to a higher level except in special circumstances as determined by the Board of Studies.
1.3: Students who are required to repeat a module should do so at the first available opportunity and within 2 academic years from the original date of programme completion.
2. The Assessment Algorithm
2.1: Each module will be assessed according to the criteria set out in the module documentation.
2.2: Each student shall be informed as to the proportion or weighting that each component contributes to the overall assessment of the programme.
2.3: The 'overall mark' in all modules is determined according to the algorithm stated in the programme module. Students must achieve at least 50% in both coursework and / or examination. In the case of modules using staged assessment, students must achieve 50% in Parts A and B).
2.4: Students obtaining an overall mark of less than 50% will be required to repeat the module at the next available opportunity, and within two (2) academic years from the original date of module programme completion.
2.5: Students repeating a module have to attend a minimum of 80% of lectures in the subject.
3. Re-sit Examinations
3.1: Students must re-sit failed examinations at the next available opportunity.
3.2: Students will only have one opportunity to re-sit failed examinations.
3.3: Examinations will be held either at the Institute or at a centre designated by the Institute.
3.4: Students may only be awarded a maximum mark of 50% for any re-sit examination.
3.5: Students failing a re-sit examination will have to repeat the module.
4. Assignments
4.1: All assignments (portfolios, log books, projects, and other coursework) must be submitted by the deadline set.
4.2: Students absent during an oral or a presentation session are to present a medical certificate and to be given the opportunity to sit for the oral or make a presentation on another occasion.
4.3: Assignments handed in after the due date will be penalized by deducting five (5) marks out of hundred per week or part thereof. Such assignments shall be submitted through the Office of the Registrar for date stamping and signatures.
4.4: In the case of group assignments every student is to be given a specific task and assessed individually.
4.5: Students who have recorded a failed grade in any assignment will be referred to the Programme Review Board for a final decision.
5. Progression
Students who fail any module for any reason will be referred to the Programme Review Board at the end of the semester. The Programme Review Board will decide whether the student will be allowed to continue his programme of studies in the next semester.
APPENDIX III
1. Accademics Appeal Procedure
Within seven working days of the result of the assessment, the student should explain the reasoning behind any disagreement with the assessor who judged the evidence. The assessor will consider the facts and ensure that the candidate understands the judgement. If the assessor finds reason to alter the decision, the student will be informed and amendments made to the assessment records.
When agreement has been reached, an Assessment Appeals Record form should be completed and signed by the assessor and the student. This form should be forwarded to the Registrar, who will record the appeal and provide copies to the student and the assessor.
In cases where the assessor and the student fail to reach an agreement, such a decision shall be forwarded to the Director General.
The Deputy Director will consider the evidence and discuss the appeal with both student and assessor. If necessary, the Deputy Director will seek the opinion of a second assessor. Having made a decision based on careful consideration of the facts, the Deputy Director will complete the Second Stage of the Assessment Appeals Record form and provide feedback to the student and the assessor within seven (7) days of receiving the appeal. If agreement has been reached, the student will be asked to sign the form and the process is complete. The Registrar will provide copies to the student and the assessor.
In the event that the student still disagrees with the decision, the form should be completed without the student's signature and forwarded to the Registrar for record purposes. The Register shall, within 48 hours of the decision taken by the Deputy Director, inform the Director General. The final decision of the Director General shall be communicated to the student and the assessor within seven (7) days of the decision.
2. Revision of Exam Papers
2.1: Students seeking a revision of examination paper shall submit their request in writing to the Registrar within 10 working days from receipt of the official result sheet.
2.2: Requests for a revision of an examination paper shall be accompanied by an administrative fee of Lm10 for each paper.
2.3: The fee charged is refunded if the student's request is found to be justified.
APPENDIX IV
ITS Examinations - General Instructions for Students
1. Students, wearing the full ITS uniform, are to enter the examination room as instructed by the invigilator/s. Part-time students are expected to wear smart attire, consistent with the ITS dress code.
2. Students must be in the examination room 20 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
3. Students will be allowed 10 minutes reading time prior to the commencement of the examination. Late students will only be allowed entry after the completion of reading time, at the discretion of the Chief Invigilator.
4. Students should read carefully and follow the instructions printed on the front page of the examination question paper.
5. Students are not allowed to take to their desk in the examination room any material other than the normal writing items, i.e. pens, pencils, rubbers, ruler and a calculator. Personal belongings including personal organisers, mobile phones, books or notes are to be handed over to the invigilator for safe-keeping.
6. Students must write in black, blue-black or blue ink. Diagrams may be drawn in pencil.
7. Students must complete the details on the front cover of all examination booklets, and on any other material used. Any rough work should be entered in the booklet and then clearly ruled through in pencil.
8. Students are not allowed to communicate with other students during examinations. Students wishing to ask a question should quietly attract the attention of the invigilator.
9. Eating and drinking is not allowed in the examination rooms.
10. Students are not allowed to leave the examination room during an examination. However, the invigilator may in exceptional circumstances allow a student to leave the room in cases of illness or if the student has an urgent need to go to the toilet. An invigilator must accompany him whilst outside the examination room.
11. Students who finish any examination before the allocated time, may give in their papers to the invigilator and leave the room quietly. However, students will not be allowed to leave the examination room during the last 15 minutes of the examination. Students should not remain outside the examination room as they may disturb the other students sitting the examination.
12. Students will be referred to the Board of Discipline for any breach of the above regulations. They may also be suspended from an examination for misbehaviour or misconduct.
13. Reported cases of cheating will be referred to the ITS Examinations Board and may result in the expulsion from the Institute. However, the student will be allowed to continue to sit for the examinations.
APPENDIX V
ITS - Library Resource Centre
1. The Library shall be open for study and research purposes, and shall be available for the borrowing of books to:-
- members of the Board of Governors of the Institute;
- members of the full-time and part-time teaching staff of the Institute;
- members of the administrative staff of the Institute;
- full-time registered students of the Institute;
- persons to whom permits have been issued as provided in Regulation 2.
2. Permits for the regular borrowing of books may also be issued by the Librarian against the payment of a prescribed deposit to the following persons:-
- members of recognised professional bodies as approved by the Board of Governors;
- holders of Certificates and Diplomas awarded by the Institute;
- registered I.T.S. students not receiving a stipend;
- persons engaged in study and research requiring books which are not available in other Maltese libraries accessible to the public.
3. Applications for Library permits must be made on the prescribed form available from the Librarian. The Librarian may require a written recommendation from a person of professional standing resident in Malta.
4. Library members and holders of Library permits may have on loan at any one time not more than the following number of books:-
- members of the teaching staff of the institute - six books;
- final-year diploma students - six books;
- all other full-time and part-time students of the institute - four books;
- all other categories - three books.
5a. The period allowed of loan for each book is as follows:
- members of the teaching staff of the Institute - six weeks
- all other borrowers - three weeks
b. A loan may be renewed for a further period or periods, provided that the book is brought to the Library for this purpose. A loan is not renewed if the book has been reserved by another borrower.
6a. All books required for loan must be presented at the circulation desk.
b. The borrower must ensure that a return-by date is stamped in each book to be borrowed.
c. All books borrowed must be presented at the circulation desk when returned to the Library. The borrower can get a receipt of return if requested.
7. A Library book cannot be transferred to another borrower unless it is returned and re-issued in the prescribed manner.
8a. If a book is retained by a borrower beyond the loan period allowed, a fine of 50 cents per week or part of a week will be charged in respect of each book so retained. Such delay charges will be automatically deducted from the borrower's stipend or from the deposit as the case may be.
b. If, after a third reminder is issued, a borrower still fails to return a book or books, library services and facilities to him/her shall be withdrawn until loaned items are returned. In the case of permit holders, re-applications for the use of library services will be accepted at the discretion of the Librarian.
9a. Any person who consults or borrows a book is responsible for its safe keeping, and any damage to the book is strictly forbidden.
b. Any person will be required to make good to the satisfaction of the Librarian any loss or damage which may occur to any Library item while it is on loan, or being consulted. Anyone who loses an item or mutilates it, shall be liable to pay full replacement cost, which will be deducted from the borrower's stipend or deposit as the case may be.
10. The Librarian may designate any book a Reference book. Books so designated may not be borrowed.
11a. The Librarian may designate any book a Reserved book. Books so designated may, at the discretion of the Librarian, be borrowed overnight or for a weekend.
b. A borrower who fails to return such a short loan punctually shall be charged a fine of 25 cents per day.
c. A Library member shall not retain a Reserved book, or a Reference book for longer than one hour if another member requires the same book.
12a. Bags, briefcases and baskets are not allowed in the Library or the Learning Resource Centre. Such items are to be left on the rack provided for this purpose. However, neither the Librarian nor the Institute is responsible for the loss of, or damage to any article placed on the rack.
b. Smoking, eating or drinking and the use of mobile phones are not allowed in the Library and in the Learning Resource Centre.
c. Silence is to be maintained at all times in the Library and in the Learning Resource Centre.
13. The Librarian may for a valid reason prohibit any person from using the Library and / or the Learning Resources Centre. Appeals from such decisions shall be forwarded in writing to the Director General.
14a. A student is not allowed to use the Internet for more than 45 minutes each day.
b. The Internet can only be used for research purposes regarding academic matters.
Explanatory Notes:-
- The Library forms part of the Learning Resource Centre of the Institute and is administered by the Library and Learning Resources Co-ordinator. In these Regulations he is referred to as the Librarian.
- The word 'Librarian' in these regulations includes any such officer of the Institute as is in charge of the Library during the absence of the Librarian.
- The word 'day' in these regulations means a working day, and does not include Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
